Ministries and projects St. Luke’s supports in Recife, Brazil · Provides oversight and prayer covering for the ministry · Disseminates information about the ministry · Helped purchase land for the future site of a children’s orphanage · Members of St. Luke’s make on-site visits to Recife · St. Luke’s supports the House of Hope (Casa da Esperança) day care center that houses 80 plus children daily

Praise reports from Recife · When we moved to Brazil, one of our long-term goals was increased Brazilian support for projects at Casa da Esperança. That support is becoming a reality. We still need St. Luke’s, but the burden is not so great anymore! It is so important to get the Brazilian community to take care of their own. · Several recent and large donations have enabled us to make some permanent improvements to the house for the day care. We added a couple of bathrooms and created a new infant’s room downstairs, and we were able to cover all the walls with ceramic tile! This is important because the kids have a wonderful gift of destroying anything that isn’t super hard! The walls will also stay drier during the rainy season and that means less mold and asthma. · We have found favor with the local government here. We have placed the children first and local leaders are seeing that and it has been opening doors for other things.

Prayer requests from Recife · Financial support increases, but as we have grown, so has our budget. And quite often, monies we receive are earmarked for special projects. We need more regular monthly support that can be used at our discretion, whether it is to buy groceries, pay salaries or pay bills. Not very glamorous but that is our need. · The health and safety of the children. The violence in the favella is getting worse. Children are regularly coming to the daycare with horror story soap operas playing out at home. · The purchase of the land for the House of Hope. · As the orphanage process goes forward, please pray for us to receive wisdom and provision. We want to go where the Lord leads.

Ministry opportunities in Recife · Food ministry to the poor · Teaching and care of the children at the day care center · Teaching craft, sewing and cooking classes · Sponsorship of children at the day care center · Participation in evangelistic events in the community
