 Altar Guild

Serves the Lord by preparing the Altar for worship.  It is a prayerful offering by men and women to make the church ready for Eucharist, Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, and Burial of the Dead.  Most Episcopal churches have altar guilds made up mostly of women.  St. Luke’s is unique in that its altar guild is largely made up of men (Women, of course do serve on the guild and are always welcome!).  Altar guild members serve on small teams that prepare for the Saturday and Sunday Eucharist.

This is an excellent way to learn about the sacramental life of our church.  Because the Eucharist and the Altar play important roles in our worship, the work of the Altar Guild is a blessing both to the parish and to the guild members.

Readers

The presentation of the scripture is an important element of our worship together. During services, lay readers present the scriptures which have been appointed for that week.

Greeters

Are designed to welcome and share the blessings we continually receive with newcomers and established members.  Greeters provide an open hand and an open door for those who have never been to St. Luke’s.  Greeters help new visitors feel welcome and relaxed so they may experience the reality of our Living God and the Power of the Holy Spirit.     Greeters also provide much needed information and guidance to any and all who have questions and need guidance.

Chalice Bearers

assist in the distribution of the wine during Holy Communion.  This is special ministry that gives you the opportunity to minister to hundreds of people during the worship service.  The chalice bearers serve on teams that rotate about every six weeks.

 Ushers

The Usher Ministry continues the work of the Greeters by helping people prepare for the the worship service.  This involves distributing service bulletins, helping people find a seat, escorting disabled persons who need assistance, and providing a warm inviting atmosphere.

The Ushers also help with keep the physical realities of the service running smoothly.  Ushers help receive the offering, they guide the congregation during Communion, and assist those who need directions in the building.  Ushers are there to be a help.
