Saint Luke's Church
Preparation for
Marriage
Marriage is a Sacrament, given by God, for the benefit of all
humankind. It is a
gift from God and should be viewed in the sanctity of the blessing
He gives. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church considers marriage one of
the most important events in the life of two people.
As
a couple makes a commitment to marriage, the Church is prepared to
support them through pre-marriage counseling, clergy support, and
other ongoing supports to ensure the success of the marriage throughout
the life of the couple.
In
order to identify the steps required for successful planning of the
marriage, St. Luke’s requires the following:
-
Please speak
with a priest about your intention to get married before setting
a date for the wedding. We require notification of
clergy at least
-
six [6] months
prior to the actual date of the marriage. This time period
allows for completion of all requirements of the pre-marriage
program.
-
Successful
completion of the couple’s pre-marriage preparation plan.
Once a member of the clergy is contacted, a mentoring couple from
St. Luke’s marriage ministry is assigned. The mentoring couple
will assist you with the requirements of the pre-marriage program and
verify your preparation for
marriage with the clergy.
After your wedding, your mentoring couple will make follow-up
contacts with you at three [3], six [6], and
twelve [12] month intervals. At these times, special
supports may be addressed that can assist in the transition from
single to married life. Various Church programs that
are meant to strengthen marriages and families are
provided throughout the year. Married couples
are encouraged to attend.
