12 Step Addiction Recovery

What is an addiction?

An addiction is a substance or a behavior that has become unmanageable in your life. It is the state of being enslaved to a habit or to something that is psychologically or physically habitforming to such an extent that when you try to give it up you experience trauma. You can see destructive results from it and you may try not to do it but your will power is not overcoming it. You  can't quit. Addictions keep us in bondage but the addict sees them as a means for gaining a sense of comfort, security or control. Addictions can feel like consuming passions that drive you and act as unholy nourishment that always leaves you wanting more. It is never enough to fill the hole in your heart. Almost anything can develop into an addiction when we try to use it to  replace the God shaped hole inside of us but here are a few examples:

Partial List of Addictive Substances and Behaviors:

Overeating    Alcohol    Television
Materialism    Pornography    Work
Obsessing    Pain     Relationships
Entertainment    Shopping    Busyness
Drugs/Medication    Anger    Shoplifting
Internet Gambling      Violence
Fantasy Romance novels      Hoarding
Smoking     Care taking Control

If you would like to learn about a tool for growth and recovery from these and other addictions, if you would like to walk with other companions on this healing journey, please come and join us as we grow into the full stature of the measure of Christ.
