How to Participate

Week 6; March 30 – April 5, 2008

 Chapter: 9 pgs. 97-105

Topic: The Works of the Father

  1. We can travel the globe and preach the Gospel, but without a personal revelation of the Father's heart we're carrying around second hand news – a story without a relationship. It might save people because it is truth, but there is so much more” (101). What is your personal revelation of the Father's heart? Share it with someone today in your small group.
  2. Why do miracles express the Father's heart? When a miracle happens, how does life and light go forth into darkness?
  3. Check your heart. Is the love of God your motivation for what you do, or is there another agenda? How adept are you at displaying the love of God through miracles? Where might you grow to increase your effectiveness in this area? Create a plan to challenge yourself to grow in dependence  upon the Father for these kinds of works. What would you include?
  4. Johnson shares the experience of Jason who led one person to the Lord and saw another raised from a wheelchair in response to his prayers during a day of Jury duty. Imagine a bull's eye in a heart shape painted on each person you have an opportunity to speak to each day. Who would be the most difficult to target? Who would be the easiest? Who might repel your love when you give it? How will you respond, whether the love is received or not?
  5. Look at the list of six items the author has given to help make your pursuit (of God) practical (pgs. 102-104 and on summary sheet). Rate yourself on each one on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest. Where do you need to improve? What steps will you take to do so?
  6. Jesus said, “As the Father sent me, I also send you.” When Jesus passed the baton to us, He literally sent us to do what he did, the works he saw the Father doing. That means we are to continue the race with the same attitude, obedience, substance and power. How do you think the Church can do this? How will we know victory is achieved?
