How to Participate

All Church Study
When Heaven Invades Earth
Week 2 – February 17 – February 23, 2008
Chapter 4 :  pgs. 43- 56

Topics – Faith and Unbelief

  1. “Jesus told us he only did what He saw his Father do...The power of his actions is rooted in his ability to see...” (When 44). How would you rate your ability to see into the spiritual realm? What can you do to stimulate the unused potential you possess (J 27)?
  2. To become a student of the Holy Spirit, how is humility involved? When you read the Bible, how does the Holy Spirit provide life giving power to the words you read? How do you recognize that it is the Holy Spirit speaking? What is your understanding of the process of revelation and experience and their impact on your understanding? Does the Spirit of God find a welcome domain in your spirit (31)?
  3. Define “abiding faith” and “active faith”. How does an active faith become aggressive? How would you describe your faith(35)?
  4. If faith is “the presence of belief,” how do we make faith operational in our daily lies? What do you struggle with which keeps you from surrounding yourself with faith wherever you go? How do we grow corporate faith (39)?
  5. The author tells us, “Rest is the climate that faith grows in” (Heb. 3.11-4.11). But he also says, “Faith may quietly press in, or it may cry out very loudly, but it is always violent in the spiritual world” (Matt.11.12) (When 54,55). Where are you in the tension between rest and violence? How does Jesus want to encourage you in this (40)?
  6. What comes to mind when you think about the Kingdom of God becoming manifest on Earth? Is your picture filled with a serene sedentary group of people enjoying the “best” the earth has to offer, or is it painted with hard work, violence, and corporate revolution? Which picture do you choose to be part of? (39)
